About Adirondack Woodright
Tom Benware considers himself a Mountain Man who is also a rustic furniture artist. Operating as the “Adirondack Woodwright”, Tom produces some of the most unique, sought after, high-end rustic furniture made in the Adirondack tradition.

As a one man company, Tom is personally involved in every aspect of each project. Using native Adirondack materials such as Yellow Birch sticks, White Birch bark, acorns, pinecones, burls, fungus or other treasures he finds on his excursions into the back country, Tom creates highly detailed, one-of-a-kind works of art. His work is expressed in many forms - tables and chairs, leather-upholstered furniture, custom cabinetry and rustic lighting are a few of them. Because of the attention to detail, the unique and original designs and high level of craftsmanship, Tom’s work has been recognized in the rustic community as being among the very best available.

Some of Toms pieces have been featured in national publications such as "Arts & Antiques", "Country Living", "Architectural Digest", and "Log Home Living". His work has also been featured in several of Ralph Kylloe's best selling rustic furniture books.

Tom has also been the recipient of many prestigious awards: In 2004 Tom was presented the award for "Outstanding Example of Traditional Rustic Spirit" from the Adirondack Museum, in Blue Mountain Lake, NY. He was awarded “Best of Show” for display at the Lake Mills Fine Art Show. His pieces have also won first and second place awards and "Best of Show" award from "The Northeastern Woodworkers Association" in upstate NY.

Tom’s pieces have become part of many private collections all across the country. His art has been displayed at some of the finest galleries and rustic resorts in the Adirondacks. Tom and his work have appeared at the Adirondack Museum’s “Rustic Furniture Fair” in Blue Mt. Lake, NY, “The Lake Home and Cabin Show” in Minneapolis, MN, as well as the prestigious “Western Design Conference” in Cody WY.

Tom says, “I feel it is my honor and my duty to pay tribute to the Adirondack legacy by leaving behind for all to share what the Adirondacks has given to me. I believe after seeing my work all would agree, I am “The Adirondack Woodwright”.

Artist Statement

Early morning dawn, fog rising off the crystal clear lakes, the far away call of the loon, the perfect stillness and serenity of the forest, the grandeur of the peaks rising in the distance. That’s what it is to be an “Adirondacker”. I live my life using the bounty nature provides, along with the spirit of my soul, to transform found items from the forest floor into wondrous creations. My pieces are as unique and diverse as the Adirondacks themselves. In my mind, there is a place deep in the woods where I go to pick my pieces - much as one would go gathering flowers.
I feel it is my honor and my duty to pay tribute to the “Adirondack Legacy” by leaving behind, for all to share, what the Adirondacks has given to me. I believe after seeing my work all would agree, “I am the Adirondack Woodwright”.
